Privacy Policy

The short version

We collect what you send us through our contact form, and basic data about how people use this site. We use it to reply to you and to understand what is working. We do not sell, rent or trade your information.

What you send us

Our contact form asks for your first name, last name, email address and message. Your phone number is optional. When you send the form, our site also records your IP address, browser, operating system, the page you sent it from, and the site that sent you to us.

We use this to reply to you, keep a record of the conversation, and spot spam.

Your message is saved in our website's database, which our hosting provider, Hostinger, runs for us. A copy is emailed to our Google Workspace inbox through Google's mail servers.

How people use this site

We use Google Analytics to see which pages people visit, how long they stay, how they found us, what kind of device and browser they use, and roughly where they are, down to the city. Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses.

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser, small files that tell one visit from the next. They are tied to our site. We have not turned on Google signals, the feature that links activity across sites and devices for people signed in to Google.

When someone sends our contact form, we count it as a completed contact. We do not send your name, email, phone number or message to Google.

Our website host also keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and running.

When you give

Online giving on this site runs through Fundraise Up, which handles donations for us, and Stripe, which processes the payment. When online giving opens, Fundraise Up's checkout code will load on our pages and set its own cookies to run the checkout and prevent fraud.

When you give, we receive your name, email address and the details of your gift: the amount, the date, how often you give and what it supports. If you choose to share them, we also receive your mailing address, phone number, employer, a comment, and the name and contact details of anyone you dedicate your gift to. We use those contact details only to send your dedication. Please do not enter a child's contact details.

Fundraise Up also records technical data, such as your IP address, device, browser and approximate location, to process your gift and prevent fraud. If you start a gift and leave before finishing, Fundraise Up may keep what you entered, and we may send you one reminder. You can opt out in that email.

We never see or store your full card or bank account number. Fundraise Up and Stripe meet the card industry's highest security standard, PCI DSS Level 1.

We use your information to process your gift, send your receipt, keep the records the law requires of a charity, and thank you. We show your name in public, for example as one of our Founding 100, only if you say yes. You can always give anonymously.

Give monthly? You can change, pause or cancel your gift any time in Fundraise Up's donor portal or through our Contact page. Cancelling stops all future charges.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the companies that run this site, our email and our online giving for us: Hostinger, Google, Fundraise Up and Stripe. They use it to provide those services. We will also share information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep contact form messages as long as we need them to reply and keep our records. Ask us and we will delete yours.

Google Analytics keeps detailed data for 14 months, then deletes it.

We keep donation records for seven years, as our records policy and the law require of a charity.

Your choices

See, fix or delete what you sent us. Use the form on our Contact page and start your message with "Privacy".

Block or clear cookies. Your browser settings let you do both.

Opt out of Google Analytics. Install Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed standard for what a site should do with it, so our site does not change how it works when it gets one. The Google add-on above stops Google Analytics on every site you visit.

Children

Our programs serve kids. This website is for adults: parents, coaches, donors and partners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this site. If you think a child has sent us information, tell us through the Contact page and we will delete it.

Security

Every page on this site loads over HTTPS. Our site administrators sign in with two-step login. No website is perfectly secure, so please do not send sensitive information, like financial details, through our contact form.

Links to other sites

Some pages, like The Gap, link to outside sources. Their privacy policies apply once you leave our site.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so at the top of this page.
